Artist Biography

Mitchell Poon is an artist based in New York City and Providence working primarily with drawing and printmaking. His work is inspired by his experience growing up a third generation Chinese American, a personal mythology, Chinese symbolism and numerology, and his family’s archive. His compositions reference symbolism and numerology to add additional layers of meaning to his narratives.

He first began printmaking after studying lithography at Cornell University, where he received his BA. He has since studied printmaking at other institutions such as the Manhattan Graphics Center and the School of Visual Arts. His art has been exhibited at the Berry Campbell Gallery in New York City, as well as the Herbert F. Johnson Museum and the Ink Shop Printmaking Center, both in Ithaca, NY.

Poon is currently pursuing his MFA in printmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design, and is expected to graduate in 2026.
